The residents of Lincoln St started a crime watch this evening. We contacted Mike Leonard at the RPD, 225-4209, arranged an evening meeting at a home and invited neighbors. Mike spoke for close to 2 hours, answered questions, and distributed crime statistics for our neighborhood.
Recent City of Redding budget cuts are forcing the RPD to cut back and they will be relying on neighborhood watch support now more than ever. Mike said there are 3 neighborhood watch units in effect in the Garden Tract area at this time. I hope our revitalization of the Garden Tract Society can help more to start.
Key points are as follows:
Call 911 if a crime is in progress involving potential property loss and/or potential personal injury
Call dispatch directly (225-4564) if you observe suspicious activity or suspicious people - this helps the RPD a great deal.
Keep front lights on from dusk til dawn and motion sensor lights at the side and back of your property. the motion lights can help track fleeing suspects at night.
Share contact information with your neighbors and have neighbors keep an eye on your property when you're absent (collect mail, papers, park in your driveway, etc)
If you want to share crime-related info on this site, please feel free to post incidents, trends, observations of suspicious activity or email me at moniquegaido@gmail.com.
Thanks!
